Things That Go Bump
I will be goin' on this comin' Tuesday to have my first laser surgery on my eyes. Both eyes contain cataracts. I had my eyes checked by the surgeon yesterday and I am not lookin' forward to havin' this done, let me tell you. The doctor told me that the actual surgery will only take about 10 minutes. So the preparation must take more time also, I suppose, but he didn't say and I didn't lthink to ask at the time.

He explained that because of my sensitivity to light he will need to deaden around the eye with a shot of something. Just the thought of a needle goin' into the flesh around my eye makes me feel like cryin' already. He explained that I would not remember the pain however. I will be given a sedative intraveniously. I will be given a strong enough dose to put me completely out for about 3 minutes while he injects the medication around my eye. Then I will be awake for the rest of the time but he tells me that I will not remember the actual surgery once I come out of the calmative.

I wish I could understand how this can be. I will be awake durin' the surgery but won't remember it at all after I come out from under the calmative. It sounds unbelievable. But I have spoken with one person who has had this done and she told me that she didn't remember a thing about the surgery at all. She said when she came to that they were putting a bandage on her eye.

Anyhow I am feelin' frightened. I am afraid anytime something is used to put me to sleep because of horror stories of people not comin' out of surgery. Plus I have a fear of the medication not workin' properly after all and of havin' to endure the memory of the surgery and pain. Please pray for me on Tueday if you are spiritual. I will need it. Saturday I will begin takin' an anti-biotic before the surgery. That is standard now, I believe, for any kind of surgery.

I had a good visit with J and L. They left today to go to visit other relatives in Alabama. They were good company while they were here except for one thing. I allowed J to use my computer while he was here and he would be up late at night while L and I were asleep. Today, after they left, I discovered that J had changed my homepage and downloaded a bunch of music as well as to have visited porn sites accordin' to my history. I have deleted the history and all of the files he downloaded. I'm glad that they won't be comin' up here too often. Before they come again I need to find out how to protect my computer from him bein' able to access porn sites.

J sometimes can be so disrespectful. The least he could have done was to have deleted all that trash from my computer. To leave it for me to find seems rude and crass. I know from past experience with J that it doesn't do any good to try to reason with him or even fuss at him. He will do it anyhow. I almost wish that I had AOL's parental controls on this computer, but I don't like AOL. Those people are difficult to get rid of. Anyone have any suggestions?

J did do a lot of nice things for me while he was here, like gettin' my DVDR to work. Now I can record movies from both VHS and other DVDs. I am in business. I have some copies of Ryan's hard to get episodes of Veritas to copy for some friends on his message board after this eye surgery is behind me. Right now I can't concentrate on doin' it. I am nervous.

L cooked some Italian dishes for me yesterday and froze some for me to eat later on. She fixed somethin' she calls "bosta" or that's what it sounded like. It's probably spelled "basta" like pasta which it rhymes with. It's a delicious pasta and beef dish that she said she doesn't give away the recipe for since it's been in her family for generations. Ummm hmmm! Yeah, and if I believe that you can sell me the Brooklyn Bridge next. I bet I can find the recipe for it on the net.

I am readin' a really great ebook called "Lost Boy, Lost Girl". It's a free download from MSN and I'm surprised at how good it is. I haven't yet figured out if the story is goin' the way of science fiction or just the over-extended imagination of the characters. I won't even begin to go into what it's about, but so far it has me enraptured. I hope to finish readin' it before I have the surgery. I don't know if I'll be able to read it then or not. Someone has told me that for a long time my eye/eyes will be extremely sensitive to light. I will miss my ebooks if this is so and I don't know how that will effect my ability to be on the computer either. I may end up wearin' a pair of sunglasses at the computer. I don't know if I can stand bein' away from all my Internet activities and friends.

I see that Walmart has made the news for their envolvement with hirin' illegal immigrants to work for less money. They're denyin' any knowledge of it however, sayin' that they used agencies to hire the workers and didn't know they were usin' illegal workers. It will be interestin' to see how all of this turns out. Another company was in the news just yesterday for firin' American workers in favor of hirin' on imigrants usin' visas for specially trained or skilled workers who entered the USA. Then they had to be trained to do the work by the very Amercans they replaced. The company is called "First Data" I think. They deal with credit card charges I believe.

I hope a court will shut them down for this. I really do. I think it's awful that people can come into America and take jobs away from Americans with the shortage of jobs we have as it is already. They shouldn't be allowed to do that. And I hope that some kind of law will be enacted to prevent this from continuin' to go on. It's a cryin' shame. They come over here and want to take away our jobs and our money. Man, I hope somebody here takes it upon themselves to kick some butt big time.
